Images reveal themselves when I become involved with the process and give my creativity the freedom to
develop naturally. A historical reference develops with layers of intense colors or hues and underlying textures.
Calligraphic lines often define the allusion of subtle forms and symbols.
I am most comfortable with an intuitive approach to a minimalist style of abstraction or stylized forms, where the
viewer is left to interpret as they please. These images evolve from my pondering unconscious visions and from
my life experiences. Often, I am surprised by the expressive forms that repeat themselves or morph into new
perceptions. My choice of hues can evoke a visual transformation from these musings that can be an intense or
subtle reflection of my emotional responses.
My artwork includes the techniques of Clay Monotype, Linocut, Ceramics and Mixed Media. Clay Monotype, my
newest art medium, is a technique of printmaking with liquid kaolin clay as the paint or ink.
Art connects me with my spiritual, intellectual and creative energies. In 1966-67, I received a BA in Art and
Teaching Credential and have over 30 years of teaching art and ceramics, along with exhibiting and selling
artwork. Currently, I teach ceramics for the Alameda Adult School at Mastick Senior Center and other workshops
at my Clay Art Studio.
In all this time, I remain humble to the realization that art is about the process of creation more than the finished
product.
